Alturas is a rural community in Polk County that first became a census-designated place in 2010. The 2020 census counted 4,084 residents and 1,691 housing units, and classified the whole area as rural. Its main road is County Road 665A, with SR 60 running just to the north. Citrus is part of its story: the Alturas Fruit Growers Association packed fruit under a “Try Me” crate label around 1935.
Roof Repair in Alturas, FL
On a rural property the leak isn’t always on the house. We repair shingle and metal roofs on homes and on attached porches and carports, where the joint between two roof sections is a common spot for water to get in. We also replace cracked tile and reseal vents, skylights and flashing. See our residential roofing page for everything we handle.
Hurricane Wind Across Rural Polk
Being inland doesn’t keep Alturas out of a storm’s path. Irma’s eye crossed the western part of Polk County in 2017, and eight out of ten homes in the county lost power. Ian followed in 2022 with heavy rain countywide and a top Polk wind of 78 mph measured at Lakeland. Our storm and wind damage page has more.
When Alturas Homes Need a New Roof
If the roof leaks in several places, the shingles are worn bare, or metal panels are rusted through, replacement usually beats chasing repairs. Alturas is unincorporated, so the Polk County Building Division permits it. Roof financing is available.
Metal, Shingle and Tile Roofs in Alturas
Metal is a practical choice for rural homes and outbuildings because it sheds heavy rain fast and holds up well to wind. We also install GAF and Owens Corning architectural shingles and concrete or clay tile. Learn more on our metal roofs page.

Frequently Asked Questions
How fast can you get to a leak at my Alturas home?
Call (727) 288-4650 the moment you notice it. For an active leak, calling is the fastest way to get the opening covered and a repair scheduled. In the meantime, catch the water and move anything that could be damaged.
Can you repair my roof, or should it be replaced?
A localized leak, a few missing shingles or a loose panel can usually be repaired. Widespread wear, rust through metal, or soft decking usually means replacement. We’ll give you photos and an honest recommendation.
Do you work on tile and metal roofs in Alturas?
Yes. We repair and replace metal roofs, including fasteners, seams and trim, and we fix concrete and clay tile by replacing broken pieces and checking the underlayment. We handle architectural shingles too.
Do I need a permit to reroof in Alturas?
Yes. Alturas is unincorporated, and the Polk County Building Division requires a permit for all reroofing. Minor repairs under 25 percent of the roof, as determined by the county’s Building Official, are exempt. We pull the permit for you.
Can you also fix the roof on my porch or carport?
Yes. We repair roofs on attached porches, carports and other structures tied into the house. Those connections are a common source of leaks, so we check them during every inspection.
