Wimauma, FL sits in the southern part of Hillsborough County, with Balm to the north, Sun City Center to the west and the Manatee County line to the south. US-301 forms part of its western edge, and SR-674 runs straight through the middle of town. The Little Manatee River passes through the area as well.
The community dates to 1902, when Captain C.H. Davis founded it, and for most of its history it has been farm country. That’s changing. Wimauma now has close to 9,500 residents and about 2,800 homes, and in 2023 the county rezoned roughly 909 acres of agricultural land south of SR-674 for more than 1,800 new houses.
So a roofer working here sees a little of everything: older homes on larger rural lots, barns and workshops, and brand-new subdivisions where the roofs are only a few years old. Each needs a different conversation, and we’re glad to have all of them.

No City Hall, So the County Permits
Wimauma is a census-designated place, not an incorporated city, so there’s no town building department. Roof permits come from Hillsborough County Development Services, which takes applications through its online portal, HillsGovHub. The county inspects the work partway through and again at the end.
We pull the permit, schedule the inspections and keep the paperwork straight. If someone offers to reroof your house without a permit, that’s a red flag: an unpermitted roof can cause trouble when you sell or file an insurance claim.
Older Homes on Rural Lots
Houses that predate the new subdivisions often sit on bigger pieces of land, sometimes with a shop, barn or carport nearby. Over the years these roofs tend to collect patches, mismatched shingles and flashing that’s been sealed and resealed more than once.
When we inspect one of these homes, we look past the surface to the decking, the edge metal and every roof penetration. Sometimes a targeted repair is all it needs. Other times the honest answer is that a replacement will cost less over the next decade than chasing leaks.
Metal for Barns, Shops and Homes
On agricultural land, a lot of roof area isn’t on the house at all. Metal is a natural fit for outbuildings because it sheds water quickly, handles wind well when it’s fastened correctly and doesn’t need much upkeep.
More homeowners are choosing metal for the house too. We install metal roofs with the right fastener spacing and trim for Florida wind, and we’ll explain how a metal roof compares with architectural shingles on cost, noise and lifespan so you can decide with real numbers in front of you.
Your First Roof in a New Neighborhood
If you bought in one of Wimauma’s new subdivisions, your roof is probably in good shape. It’s still worth keeping an eye on. Builder roofs are put on quickly, and small problems like a missed nail line, an unsealed vent boot or a short piece of drip edge often show up in the first few rainy seasons.
Keep your closing paperwork and any roof product information in one place. If something looks wrong, such as granules collecting at the downspouts or a ceiling stain after a storm, have it checked early. We also work with builders and owners on new construction roofing.
Heavy Rain Across Open Ground
Hurricane Milton brought 10 to 15 inches of rain to much of the Tampa Bay area in October 2024, and gusts of 80 to 100 mph were recorded around the region. Inland communities don’t face storm surge, but they still get the wind and the water.
Rain like that finds every weak spot: cracked pipe boots, lifted shingle tabs and gutters that can’t keep up. Gutters sized for the roof and downspouts that send water away from the foundation make a real difference on flat, open lots. Our gutter, soffit and fascia work covers all of it.
Planning for a Bigger Project
Replacing the roof on a house plus a barn or shop adds up quickly. We price each building separately so you can tackle the most urgent one first and schedule the rest when it suits you.
If you’d rather do it all at once, ask about roof financing. Either way, you’ll get an itemized estimate before any work begins.
When a Storm Opens Up Your Roof
If wind tears off shingles or a limb punches through, the first job is keeping the rain out. We provide same-day dry-in to seal the opening while the permanent repair is planned.
After that, we inspect the whole roof, not just the obvious damage, and give you job photos and an itemized estimate you can hand to your insurance company.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Wimauma its own city?
No. Wimauma is an unincorporated community, so Hillsborough County Development Services handles roof permits and inspections.
My house is only a few years old. Why would it need a roof inspection?
New roofs can have installation mistakes that only show up after a few heavy rains. Catching a loose vent boot or unsealed shingles early is much cheaper than repairing a water-stained ceiling later.
Can you put a metal roof on my barn or workshop?
Yes. Metal is a practical choice for outbuildings, and we can match or complement the roof on your house if you want the property to look consistent.
Do you handle permits for roofs in Wimauma?
We do. We file the permit with the county, schedule the required inspections and make sure the job is closed out properly.
Will you document storm damage for my insurance claim?
Yes. We take job photos of the damage and provide an itemized estimate that separates storm repairs from any upgrades you choose.
