Mango, FL is an unincorporated community about 10 miles east of Tampa. Thonotosassa lies to the north, Seffner to the east, Brandon to the south and East Lake-Orient Park to the west. I-4 marks its north boundary, I-75 its west side, and SR-574, Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, runs through it. The ZIP code is 33550.
Mango’s history goes back further than most places nearby. Homesteaders arrived starting in 1849, and the town was platted in 1884. It grew mainly after World War II, and part of it has since been absorbed into Brandon. About 12,700 people live here now.
That history gives Mango a mixed housing stock, with post-war homes, later neighborhoods and farm tracts side by side. For a roofer, that means checking each house on its own terms, starting with how old the roof is.

Mango or Brandon? It’s Still the County
Because parts of Mango have been folded into Brandon over the years, some owners aren’t sure which community they live in. For roofing it doesn’t change much. Both are unincorporated, so roof permits come from Hillsborough County Development Services through its HillsGovHub portal.
We file the permit, schedule the county’s progress and final inspections, and provide the contractor attestation the county asks for.
Older Roofs and the County’s Code Trigger
Plenty of Mango roofs predate 2007, and that date matters. Under the county’s re-roof rules, a roof installed before the 2007 Florida Building Code can only be partly replaced up to a point. Once more than a quarter of it is replaced within a 12-month window, the entire roof or section has to be upgraded to current code. Roofs from 2007 on don’t carry that trigger.
We check your roof’s age before we price a repair, so the quote reflects what the county will actually require. The county lays out the rule on its re-roof inspection page.
What Post-War Houses Need
A house built in the years after World War II may have had several roofs by now, sometimes layered one over another. Old decking can be soft in spots, and roof framing from that era wasn’t built to today’s wind standards.
When we tear off an older roof, we remove every layer down to the deck, replace damaged sheathing and bring the fastening up to current code. Your estimate lists those items up front so there’s no surprise once the old roof is off.
Shingle or Metal?
For a shingle roof, we install Owens Corning and GAF high-wind systems with sealed underlayment and the manufacturer’s high-wind nailing pattern. Hurricane Milton brought 80 to 100 mph gusts across the region in 2024, so those details matter.
On homes set on larger farm tracts, a metal roof is worth considering for its long life and fast rain shedding. We’ll price both so you can compare.
Gutters, Fascia and Soffit
Milton dumped 10 to 15 inches of rain across much of the county. On an older house, that kind of rain often finds soft fascia boards and gutters that have pulled away from the roof edge.
We replace rotted fascia and soffit, install seamless gutters sized for the roof and route downspouts away from the foundation. Learn more about our gutter, soffit and fascia work.
After a Storm Damages Your Roof
We provide same-day dry-in to seal storm openings and stop more water from getting in. Then we inspect the whole roof, photograph the damage for your insurance claim and give you an itemized estimate that keeps storm repairs separate from upgrades.
If the damage is extensive on a pre-2007 roof, we’ll explain how the county’s 25 percent rule affects the scope before you file.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Mango part of Brandon?
Mango is its own unincorporated community, though part of it has been absorbed into Brandon over the years. Either way, Hillsborough County issues roof permits.
My roof was installed before 2007. What does that mean for repairs?
If more than 25 percent of it is replaced within 12 months, the county requires the whole roof or section to meet current code.
My older house has two layers of shingles. Can you roof over them?
We tear off down to the deck so we can inspect and replace damaged sheathing and fasten the new roof properly.
Is metal a good choice for a home on farm acreage?
It often is. Metal lasts a long time and sheds heavy rain quickly. We’ll price it alongside high-wind shingles.
